What's expected in Year 5?

  1. Spellings- Children in upper school have been put into one of five groups according to their ability. They will receive spellings to learn each week for a test the following Monday.
  2. Reading- Reading should be frequent and ideally be part of your everyday routine. However, a minimum of 1-2 hours reading per week would be expected in Year 5. This can be done independently or to someone. The reading session should be recorded in the Home School Record provided by school. In class we aim to hear every child read to an adult at least once every week; for some children this will be more frequent.
  3. Project- A termly project will be set linked to our topic. The details of the project will be detailed below. Ideally 30 minutes per week should be spent on the project. This time should be managed by the children. The quality of the project should reflect around 3-4 hours worth of work as a minimum. 

 

 

 

Family Project

 

 

Every term in Year 5, all the children will be expected to undertake a project as part of their homework tasks. The topic will usually be linked to the current topic the children are studying in class.

 

Ideally, the outcome from any project should show in quality of up to 3-4 hours work as a minimum. Your child should work on the project weekly as opposed to letting it build up and rushing it days before the hand in date. We encourage parental involvement; any support you can give your child is really invaluable. However it must be their work that they hand in.

 

The writing can be handwritten, typed or recorded on audio or video file.

If you need any resources then please let your class teacher know so we can get them for you.    

                     

The project is due in on:- 20th July 2017

Children can receive up to 100 house points for good quality projects which they can then cash in for prizes at our school shop. 

 

       The Rainforests    

 

Make a shoebox diorama of the rainforest.

Make sure you include  the different levels of the rainforest, and the associated animals.

 

Make a leaflet about animals you will find in the rainforest.
You can do that on J2e.

Write a poem about the rainforest.
