PHSE / RSHE

At Staveley Junior School we believe that our PSHE/ RSHE programme enables our children to become healthy, independent, responsible members of society. We are committed to ensuring that our school’s PSHE/ RSHE education is delivered within a safe, secure and supportive learning environment, where children’s questions and concerns can be sensitively addressed. These subjects are at the heart of our school ethos and we believe that a good PSHE/RSHE education is vital to ensuring our children can fulfil their potential. Our school motto is ‘Dream, Believe, and Achieve’, this was chosen by our children and we believe our PSHE/RSHE curriculum encompasses this message. Furthermore, it provides our children with the skills they need to succeed in today’s world.

PSHE Matters

As a school we use the Derbyshire County Council scheme of work 'PSHE Matters' . This scheme has been updated and is in line with the new DFE requirements for teaching PSHE and RSE which came into effect in April 2021.

PSHE Matters is a spiral curriculum. This means that your child will revisit key themes several times throughout their learning journey with us.

PSHE Matters has three key themes running through its teaching.

1. Health and Well-Being

2. Relationships

3. Living in the Wider World

PSHE Matters is split in to twelve key topics. Throughout these twelve topics the three key themes are interweaved. These can be seen on our curriculum overview at the bottom of this page.

Growing up with Yasmine and Tom

Growing up with Yasmine and Tom is a resource we use in school to further enhance our teaching of SRE. It is a child friendly and interactive resource which  helps bring  topics including the body, relationships, families, friendship, online and offline safety, and puberty to live in an age-appropriate manner.
